Transforming Lives

…by intentionally “coloring outside the lines”

Hi! My name is Angie Scott, founder of Angie Scott Design. We provide science-backed research and strategies that support and celebrate equity and belonging through the lens of embodied equity and cultural well-being for organizations that understand the connection between the built environment and its impact on people. We are unafraid of “coloring outside the lines” and challenging conventional thinking. That’s where magic happens! Our human-centered methods curate innovative solutions with measurable results that benefit attraction and retention goals, brand loyalty, satisfaction, return on investment, and equitable impact.

Our environment impacts us mentally and physically. We can determine if that’s positive or negative.
— Angie Scott, PhD

Angie Scott, Ph.D., Allied ASID, is a design researcher, educator, and cultural well-being strategist. Angie is internationally known as a health equity leader and creator of an award-winning equity rating. She previously served as a tenure-track Professor of Interior Design and strongly believes that the built environment should be equitable for everyone regardless of race, gender, age, or ability. Her research takes a salutogenic approach to the built environment focused on the intersection of design and well-being with an emphasis on cultural well-being.

Through these perspectives, she focuses on stress reduction, mental health, and occupant satisfaction, giving numerous presentations on these topics. With over two decades of experience as an equity leader, design practitioner, educator, and researcher, she connects research to practice, creating impact through design and policy strategies for occupants in the built environment.

Dr. Scott earned a Ph.D. in interior design with a concentration in evidence-based design from the University of Minnesota. She also holds a DEI Workplace Certificate from the University of South Florida and was recognized as an inaugural American Society of Interior Design (ASID) Ones To Watch Award Winner and Scholar. Currently, she serves as a DEI co-chair for ASID and a Standards Committee member for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). She strongly believes that built environment professionals can significantly impact people's lives by creating spaces that promote mental, physical, and social well-being.
